All Shawl #2 - fancy yarning

Hellllllooo everyone!

Thanks for the short sabbatical. What can I say, the gorgeous weather had us outside nearly non-stop for the past week. I couldn't bear to walk away and blog and make things. I'm a real person, in the end, not a superhero blogger. And I'm okay with that.

Remember when I whipped up a feat of epic proportions?  And I took no pictures? I finished that shawl in a few hours, all told.

When I gifted it to her, she immediately asked for one in black - I bought the yarn days later and started. And put it down. And started again. Let's just say lots of things just kept coming up, but I worked on it off and on since the commission.

Well those of you who follow on Facebook know that I was blocking something a few days ago...and those of you who follow me here on the blog know I was really fighting to finish this thing.

This is it, pre-blocking.

And in the process of blocking. much nicer.
I really like the lace.
I wanted to save it for her Christmas gift, but honestly, she's getting older, and with the weather cooling off, I'd rather she had it sooner.

Ready for it?

I used 3 1/2 skeins of the yarn, a black acrylic yarn with silver thread in it.  Though I've already gotten rid of the packaging, I'm pretty sure it's from Vanna's Glamour line, and it a "2" or fine thickness yarn. One skein was 202 yards, and 1.75 oz/50g.

With the silver sparkly and it's beautiful shape, I really think it'll be a pretty holiday item for her.

While the blocking helped, the lace still isn't as spread out as I hoped on the final product, but I still love it.

I made it using the fabulous pattern from Doris Chan, the All Shawl.  You know what's even better? It's a free pattern. And a great pattern too. Easy to follow, great diagrams, different variations. I've been really happy with both shawls I've made using it.

If you need to make a shawl, try the pattern out. The mesh part gets a little dull to make, but once you get to the lace it picks up.

Have a great and beautiful day everyone!

Jess
