Ear warmer pattern! Free!

I finally got it written down, and hopefully finally have the kinks worked out!  I think the next version might have a button enclosure on the back, so it's more adjustable, but I'm happy with it for now.  And, as this is my first written pattern (and who knows what kinks everyone else will find!), I'm giving it to you for free.  I still will take custom orders for the finished product in my Etsy store, but if you want to try to make one, go for it!  These photos are from a custom order:

Here's a couple pictures of how it looks from the front:

And the side view, so you can clearly see the earflaps.

Ball Cap Earwarmer Pattern - Free!

I used a worsted weight yarn (this one was I Love This Cotton, in Black Spark), and a size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook

Loosely ch 60 (mine measured about 23 inches long) - might be a good idea to leave stitch markers every 20 for ease on Row 2.
Row 1 - hdc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 2 - hdc 20 st, chain 20 (skip 20) - this makes the bill slot, chain 20 (to the end of the row), ch 1, turn.
Row 3 - hdc across, including the chain 20, ch 1, turn.

Row 4 (begin ear flap, work only on one side of the bill slot at a time) - hdc 18 (to edge of bill cap), hdc last 2 before bill cap together. ch 1. And just for this row, I threw a SS in to row 3 to angle the edge a little more nicely.
Row 5 - hdc 2 together, continue hdc across (work evenly), ch 1, turn.
Rows 6 - 9 -Repeat rows 4 and 5 for the length of the ear flap -I used 2 more repeats (for 6 rows on earflap)
Repeats Rows 4-9 for the other earflap, beginning on the outside edge and working to the bill slot.
Join straight edges with SS, SS around the edges.  Another option is to join ends adding a treble stitch to one side and slip stitching it the other side, for a little more stretch.  Here's a picture of the finished back.

I used cotton, but acrylic is a little stretchier, so you can be a little more relaxed about fitting the cap and head.

If you do it, I'd love to see pictures, and show them off!  And please tell me if you find any errors or have questions!

  5. How can I get this free pattern? I want to make one for my son; however, when I try to copy it (so I can past it to a document and print it out), I get a message that this function is disable on this web page. I don't see a way to download it either. ?????
