My smallest niece Z came over for a few hours today...so I whipped up a quick barrette for her! By whipped up, I mean the whole thing took me at most 10 minutes. And that includes whacking my thumb with the hammer. Oops - I should really invest in a real snap press.
I had picked up a package of nickel alligator hair clips (1 3/4") the other day, so I used those. These exact ones, actually.
I crocheted a flower, but you can easily whip one up with felt or fabric. I probably will do that soon. Here's how I made the flower - it was a double layered 3 petals per layer flower.
ch 4
ss ends together
in center of loop, * ss ,sc, dc, treble crochet, dc, sc, ss* for each petal. I did four petals.
Using stitches close to center on the back of the petals, do another ring of flower petals -
ss on inside point of each petal, ch 4 ss on next point, repeat around.
in each ch 4 space, sc, hdc, dc, treble, hdc, sc, ss in point.
fasten off, weave in ends
Now, I thought of a few different ideas to attach these to the barrette, but I like how it turned out - I attached the top half of the pearl snap through the center of the flower. I attached the bottom half of the snap through the slit on the barrette. Then I snapped them together. Tada! Now you can make more flowers and switch them out if you want to.
