Spider-Dress!

Sorry for such a long "vacation" from the blog - my grandmother passed away last week, and it's been a whirlwind of travel, seeing family, and other such things.  I"m finally back home, with little else on the schedule except for Halloween, so I can breathe a sigh of relief. It's nice to be settled again.

I have so much to tell you about my trip, but I want to show you something fun first - something I'm really proud of.  My Halloween dress.  Remember when I made the Spiderman bag?

I said I was using the sheets for another project - I found them on clearance, so I had an idea in mind.

I was saving the sheets for this - (Instagram @ TupeloCreative)

I call it - Spider-Dress.

(And I just noticed my tan lines...hmm - I appear VERY concerned about them. Not sure what that look was about).

Total cost - $13 in fabric, all else in stash - ribbon, thread, zipper.
                  - $15 pattern -I'll make it again - so the cost isn't too bad. Higher than I normally pay though!

I used Butterick B5708 - a retro reprint pattern.

I had cut all the fabric out last week, but then my grandma passed, and I didn't get back until last Wednesday night. So I sewed it all together Thursday and Friday. Whew!  I needed the dress to wear Saturday night for a Halloween party. Cutting it close!

There's a bit of slapdash sewing, I won't lie.  My raised the hem quite a bit, but didn't trim it - I didn't have time.  So it falls out of the dress a bit.  I'll trim it. I wanted to get photos for you before Halloween though, so you get the pre-cut picture, with the fallen hem on the right side of the picture. It happens. :) Of all the wardrobe malfunctions, this one is internet-manageable.

I had to resew and rip apart so many pieces - my brain didn't come back from Indy apparently, but I got it done.  And I somehow cut an extra skirt piece, so I have a very full skirt in the back. I just went with it.

I just am so tickled that I finished it and it looks so good! (at least I think so!)

The ties are a bit tricky to tie evenly, and I didn't have a strapless bra that night, so I just tied the straps around my bra straps.  No biggie.

I made it in a size 14, but I think I'll grade the bodice to a 12 next time. It hangs a little too far off my shoulders for my liking.

I found that the dress needed something to accentuate the waist, so I added the red ribbon around the waist seam.  I wanted to add some to the bottom of the dress too, but ran out of time.

My dogs and kids all come out when they see the camera - do yours?

I'll be around soon, and I'll get to your comments and emails eventually. Getting back into the swing of things still. Thanks for coming by!

Jess

Oh, I made a necklace to go with this too...see that here!
