KCWC - Flashback Tee Refashion!

We're extending our "winter" wardrobe around here. Mostly, that means pants and warm shirts and sweaters, and occassionally a jacket or coat. Winter in Texas is much more bearable than so many places! (Summer, on the other hand...)

Keeping with my previous project, I made 2 more of Rae's Flashback Tee!  This time, I used some clothes out of my closet to get going.

Flashback Refashion Time!

I started with these old, tired, and uninspired shirts.  I didn't remember the before pictures on the thermal shirt until I cut a sleeve off. Sorry!

This one was a thermal shirt with a deer print.  I got it at Steve and Barry's years ago, from an Amanda Byne's collection.  Random, isn't it?  It was used as an undershirt and a workshirt for a long while, but it's becoming shapeless and a bit too juvenile on me.

This one is a brand name sweater.  Don't ask me which brand, I already tossed the tag.  The shoulders were too tall on me, and the whole thing was just frumpy.  I felt like Aunt Bee or something.  Bleh. It was in great condition, and actually, as I cut it apart, I realized how well made it is!  Good job, mystery brand.

I (again) made Made by Rae's Flashback Tee in size 5T, but I added some length since my boy has a long torso.  Well, that and I could preserve the original hem on the sweater that way.

I carefully hacked apart all the seams, and cut out my pattern pieces.  These were size medium women's and juniors shirts, and I had enough fabric easily. The sleeves were a little tight to fit on the fabric, but they worked.

I did things a little differently this time. On the Deer Shirt, I pre-hemmed the sleeves before I sewed the sleeves, because my serger doesn't have a free arm.  Much, much easier and less tedious.  I didn't have to hem the bottom of any of the bodice pieces.  I also left the sweater sleeves long...partially to roll them up later, partially because I may tweak this again in the future. I have plans...

I sewed them all together normally, using my serger (we're getting to know each other well).  I cut the lace off the sweater after I was done.  It was knitted into the edges of the sweater, and I had to be really careful not to cause it to unravel.

I left the V-neck to see what would happen, and it turned into a cool keyhole feature on the front of the sweater.

When I went to put my binding on the necks, I took my machine outside to enjoy the sunny day.

Ms. Elna apparently didn't care for the weather, and decided she would obstinately NOT sew zig zag stitches.  I managed to finish with a variation on that stitch.  But in the process it stretched my sweater knit horribly in the back of the neck.  Oh well. A won't care.

Here they are.

This turned into a great layering piece for A this winter. He loves the deer!

This sweater is now a classic component in his closet, with a keyhole neck twist.  I kinda love it. It's masculine and yet not overly so.  I like the sleeves rolled up, but I still am thinking of what else I might do with them. What would you do?

Thanks for coming by!

PS - did you miss my other projects for KCWC this week?
