KCWC - Day 3 - Link

Whew! It's been a flurry of sewing over here. Those of you who follow on Facebook (link in sidebar) saw that I ended up having 2 hours without my machine, so I just kept cutting patterns out.  I may have overdone it. KCWC, you devil. You make me live and die for sewing.

On the plus side, I finished two things this morning, and have two more nearly done.

So consider this your bonus post for today. A super special bonus post.
First KCWC Project today - Link Costume!

Total cost - $7 in fabric, 2 yards interlock with coupon.  You could easily use a thrifted XL or larger shirt.

This is a costume for my 8 year old nephew.  He wants to be Link (from the Legend of Zelda video games) this year.  I made a tunic and the cap, using this tutorial as a guide.  I used a green interlock for ease of wear and fit.  My nephew doesn't like scratchy fabrics, either, so I was careful what I picked.  I made it nearly like the tutorial, except for fabric choice.

Since I didn't have my nephew to model it, and my dress form, Matilda, didn't show the tunic to it's full potential...

you are in for a treat today.  Welcome new people, and don't run away.  I modeled it for you. Don't worry - it's so short on me, no shots from the back.

I"m so excited for it, and so embarrassed too! I love being a geek.

I made the tunic and hat, scavenged my house for the belt, accessories, and leggings.  And, wouldn't you know, I own an ocarina?

Easy costume to make and style - but if you do make it be careful of the collar. I couldn't get mine to lay flat without some serious effort.  When you draft it, make your pieces wider on the outside of each piece by a good bit. That will help it spread out.  Since this is a Halloween costume, no big deal.

For the other nerds out there, I didn't get a shot of it, but I wore a transparent red heart necklace with this. Ha!

In other news, I made a pair of Sew Liberated's Basic Pocket pants, with some modifications, of course.  I've made these pants before (here and here and somewhere else...), and I think they look super sweet.

I'll share those over at KCWC, and write up that post tomorrow. Back to sewing!
