People who can knit -

I'm not one of them. I can't knit. Seriously, I can't!  I've made an effort on multiple occasions, and I could maybe make a scarf. Because they're straight. But when it comes to complex patterns, cables, socks, hats...I'm just lost. And I don't understand it! Crochet was difficult for me to start, but I was able to figure it out and just do it eventually. I"m hoping one day knitting will just "click" with me too.  Because there are so many pretty knitted things out there, and so many things that you can crochet that, in my opinion, look so much better in knit. Like socks.

But while I was making these, I really was waiting for a friend to mail me something I had ordered from her.

Bonnie, a friend from my undergrad days, now lives way up north, where I think it is mandatory that you knit socks so you (a) don't die of boredom and (b) don't lose your toes in winter.

I sent her some yarn I had picked out, and not too much later, I received these beautiful *yes socks can be beautiful* things in the mail.

Aren't they gorgeous?  The yarn is a self striping sock yarn from called Nashua Handknits Best Foot Forward, in Berry Cobbler.  I had picked it up awhile ago at our awesome local yarn shop, Old Oaks Ranch.  I intended to knit socks...but, well...I can't. Luckily I have friends with complimentary talents to mine.

The circle pattern she used was fabulous too.  And the texture of the knit socks is so much better - a tighter weave, not as "homemade" looking.

So I'm still on a mission to knit socks. I have a feeling it would go better if my littlest didn't automatically equate yarn/needles in my hand with "come jump on my lap" every time. He's lucky he's cute.  Very good at independent play...usually. :)

I have a really cute finished project to show you soon. It's blocking as I write this.  Be excited - it's kind of awesome.
