Lazy Saturday breakfast - a Dutch baby!

I woke up this morning needing to bake something. That's happened to me three times this week. I think I miss my connection with the kitchen. We've been eating out a lot to get by, and it just gets old after awhile. Not to mention my youngest is being very picky and I'm just trying to find Something, Anything that he'll eat.

I started reading The Lost Art of Real Cooking (by Ken Abala and Rosanna Nafziger) yesterday, which I found rather enjoyable. I say found, since I managed to devour it in one day. At the end of the book the authors present a recipe for a Dutch Baby.

Now, I've heard of these before. I've debated making them, and never bothered. But something about this book made me WANT to make it. Probably the authors stating it was like a breakfast popover. Um, yes please.

Now I'm not a morning person. At all. Can't function enough to make coffee. But this was really easy. Turn on oven with cast iron pot in it, add stick of bacon. Mix a handful of ingredients together and pour into the melted butter. Bake for twenty minutes. Make something impressive that begs to be coated in jams, syrups, cinnamon...anything. It's like French toast on crack. So delicious! I'm not sure this is what it was supposed to look like, since I've never seen one, but who cares? It tasted of butter and my coffee paired nicely.

I hope you are also having a nice, relaxing summer weekend!

Jess
