So Project Run and Play runs a Flikr group sew-along that coincides with the actual sewing competition. I decided since I didn't get picked (for my New Newsie outfit) during the open auditions, that I would sew along for fun.
Well, for fun, and also to see if I could really keep up the creative pace and have the chops to do it for real, maybe next season. A girl can dream!
The first challenge was a remake of the circle skirt, which I entered as the Woodland Fairy Skirt. I didn't win, but I learned a lot during the process, and I really enjoyed doing it! Plus I got to make a pair of skirts for my nieces. I also made the Ballet Skirt with the circle skirt pattern.
The next challenge, the one for this week, is sportswear. So I set out to work on my entry for the Project Run and Play Flikr group sew along. Wow, that's a mouth full.
It is a pretty vague challenge, in the end. I decided that I really wanted to make boys clothing a priority, and for a couple reasons. First, and foremost, it is easiest for me to get access to my boys for fittings and photos. Secondly, there's a huge hole in design for little boys. Everything can tend towards uninspired. So I'm working to change that on my own.
I wanted to make something light and summery, something my boys would wear, and something my boys would actually like. I wanted to make an outfit that would outlast our desert heat this summer, would dry quickly, and also reflect the personality of Mr. A, my oldest son. I asked what he wanted to use to make a shirt, and he said "plant fabric". Well, alright then, I like when we're on the same page. I was pretty happy when my oldest agreed with my on my fabric selection for this one. May I present to you, the:
The Simple Summer Outfit -
Every preschoolers dream summer outfit. Unless they prefer to be naked...but you can't really sew for that. And so here we are. :)

Keep watching the blog - I'll be putting details up soon!
That is so cute--I'm in love with the fabric for the shirt! Great job! Where did you get the fabric?
ReplyDeleteIkea of all places! Not in the regular fabric section - they have bundles of fabric in the kids section. I have the details on tomorrow's post...I was just antsy to get this off my chest! I hate waiting until the last minute, and I needed to show off a bit. :) I loved the jacket/coat ensemble you made too!
DeleteThat's an adorable outfit! I'm so impressed with your sewing skills. I can't sew anything!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your knitting. If you have the patience to knit, think of it this way - when you knit you make your own fabric. When you sew you have all that work behind you already! I wish you lived closer - I'd teach you what I know in a heartbeat!
DeleteGreat work Jess! What a cute outfit!
