So Mr. Tupelo asked me to crochet...

Can you guess what this is?
Here's another angle:
Do you need a hint?
How about another hint?
One last hint?
See how naked that poor thing looks?  So cold and impersonal?

That blob of yarn up top?
It's a French press cover (because if I called it a cosy, my husband would never admit to asking me to make it!).
On the way to go camping, after we made it out of town, my husband casually asks, "Can you crochet a cover for the French press?".  Wow - CAN I?  First off, you just ASKED me to crochet stuff, knowing I didn't pack any crafting stuff. Impressive.  Secondly, you are actually trusting me enough to be able to do this, do it right, and do it quickly.  I'm in shock.  He's never asked me to crochet anything for him!

The French press is made of glass and metal, so coffee cools off so quickly when we're outside.  We don't use a percolator - just a choice I guess, when there's just two of us drinking it, this is a quick and dirty way to do it.

So of course, YES I'll make it.  So about 8 million miles and 20 small towns later, we finally locate a Walmart for some of our other needs, and I picked up a cheap ball of acrylic yarn and a matching cheap hook.  I had to buy a hook for it!  I'll just add it to the collection I guess...

But here's what I came up with while riding in the car.
Just a simple circle, brought up evenly a little, then I left a gap for the handle and worked back and forth, rejoining the top for a few rounds.

Don't you like how it has such a masculine cowl neck style to it?
I like being able to fill a need like that.  It makes me happy.  Would I design it differently if I wasn't in a hurry?  Probably.  Would it be as fun? NO!  There's nothing like just going for it.

Before:                                                                                After:

And now our coffee actually stays warm for a really long time wrapped up so snugly. What do you think?

A parting shot - what happens with reflective French press lids:
I actually look somewhat French in this.  You can see my spring centerpiece and our instruments hanging on the wall too.  I thought it was a great accident!
