Sewing up a Storm

Since I decided to enter the open auditions for Project Run and Play, which open Monday, my husband has kindly offered to take our boys in to grandma's house this weekend and give me the house to myself. No little fingers stealing things from my sewing table, no meals to cook...unbroken thinking and planning time.

I have two outfits planned...you can enter one thing, so I'm going to see which turns out better and is a better interpretation of my style...and then see which one I can get model photographs for in the next 3 days. One outfit is for a boy - that's great, I have plenty of those.  However, one is for a girl, and that means some organization on my part to get any good photos in before the deadline.  But I'm really excited about it, and I love the fabrics I chose.  Here's a little hint:

I'm 99 percent done with the boy outfit, and I'm in the planning and pattern making stages of the girl outfit.  I love to design girl clothes, but I really find that boy clothing is where the gap in design is.  It's hard to find anything that boys will wear, that's rough and tumble and handsome. There's just a big gap in what's available. So I find that's where I want to be designing.  It will be a feat to get it all done in time, but I love a good challenge, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.  Here's a hint of what I'm working on so far:

I didn't realize until I was almost done with the boy outfit that I've never really designed my own patterns before.  LOL.  Not sure if that should freak me out or not, but I was surprised I was almost done before the thought hit me.

At the very least, I will be sharing these ideas with you next week, after I have one entered, and I'll give a basic how-to on at least one of them.

In other news, we made an Annie's Eats recipe a couple of days ago, the Cornmeal Chive Waffles with Salsa and Eggs.  I don't keep buttermilk on hand, so I substituted thin Bulgarian yogurt (plain).  We used green onions for the chives, and dried parsley in place of fresh, so I didn't need a last minute run to the store. I must tell you I was skeptical about this one...I love my waffles, and I love them sweet.  But this was a perfect breakfast for dinner around here.  You have to try it, trust me.

(we didn't get to take our own pictures, we were too hungry to wait! Plus they were eaten instantaneously.)

Hope y'all have a great weekend - I'll be enjoying kid-free sewing.  Hopefully I'll have more pictures for you tomorrow!

  1. I can't wait to see the finished product! Thanks for stopping by my blog--I'm following you on GFC, so I'll hope you follow me too. And, if you make any trainers, I'd love to see them! Kudos to you for doing Project Run & Play--I don't think I'm ready yet! Good luck with that, and with Sew-vivor (I entered, too)!

    1. Thanks! I don't think I'm ready yet either! But honestly, if I didn't push myself, I wouldn't ever progress...I can really see how much better I've gotten just in the push to work on those 2 big patterns. I have the muslin for the girl outfit done now, but my model is out of town, so I can't do any fittings. Arg. I entered Sew-vivor on a whim...had I known about it I really would've made something just for it, you know? Best of luck, and thanks for following!

  2. I just stumbled upon that line of La Mode buttons the other day - love them. They're gorgeous. Good luck with your designs, and thanks for visiting my blog.

P.S. We like breakfast for dinner too.
