Why do I crochet a scarf when I have no clean clothes??

I've been doing lots of little miscellaneous projects around here lately, and my hands were itching to get back to crochet.  I haven't even been doing it that long, but there's something very satisfying in the way things come together. So I threw together a quick scarf to fill the void, since my other WIPs (work in progress) are long term afghans, and there's not an end in sight. And in the meantime, I'm ignoring all the dirty laundry we have around here so I can be creative for a bit.

I thought I'd tell you how I did it, in case you wanted to attempt this scarf.  I have some great reference books that have helped me along, and I seem to keep collecting them and getting ideas.

Bubble Gum Scarf - adapted from the "Painted Desert" afghan pattern in Leisure Arts Quick and Cozy Afghans"

2 skeins of worsted weight yarn ( I used Caron Simply Soft in Watermelon and Blue Mint
Size H hook (although gauge isn't so important on a scarf)

I used the Blue Mint for rows 1 and 2 on the starting edge, changed to Watermelon for 10 more rows, and switched back to Blue Mint for the last 2 rows.

Then I used border #7 (a corkscrew edge) from Around the Corner Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman, along with the Blue Mint yarn to finish the ends of the scarf. By the way, this book is a fantastic addition to your crafting library.  The photos, diagrams, and instructions alone are enough to buy it, but the huge assortment of borders is amazing!  It's so hard to pick the perfect border now because there are so many gorgeous ones in here.

What do you think?
This very scarf is now for sale in my Etsy shop!
