Fast, Easy Maxi Skirt/Dress

Hi!

I haven't been able to get out of sewing mode since KCWC - so I have a few things in the works sewing wise. I  have been working on a couple of crochet projects and so on, but it's not my passion at the moment.  I go back and forth between crafts. My sister said I have crafting ADHD...too true.  I just told her I finally have enough crafts I can do, that when I get bored, I can switch.

Speaking of said sister, it was her birthday yesterday, and I decided (15 minutes before our lunch date) to make her a skirt.  And I almost did it too!  I just needed 5 more minutes.  I made it up as I went along, so it just needed a little tweaking, and I ran out of time!

It's a maxi skirt that can also be worn as a strapless dress, and takes mere minutes to make! You don't need to worry about zippers or buttons - just know the waist size of the recipient, and go for it!

Worn belted, it makes a nice, fitted strapless dress.

The skirt is easily full enough to walk around comfortably - sometimes with longer skirts, movement can be restricted. There's plenty of room to walk in this skirt.

When worn at the waist, it makes a great maxi skirt
As a skirt, the "bandeau" part of the dress becomes the waistband, and is worn like yoga pants. Quite cozy.

This was the quickest and easiest thing I've made for awhile.  If anyone is interested, I'll post a tutorial - drop me a note in the comments!  The construction is similar to a gathered skirt, but with a couple of extra touches, and a cozier waistband.

The maxi/skirt dress went to live with my sister - I'll miss it here - we're about the same size, so if she didn't want it, I had dibs. :)

  1. That's so cute! I still don't have enough courage to sew something from scratch--I usually just refashion. :) But maybe I can do this. We'll see...
