Series Announcement!

First off, I'd like to let you in on what's coming:

Introducing - Get Organized!
A series by Tupelo Creative.

I decided that we need a series here on Tupelo Creative. And since we all know crafters and sewists are hoarders, I thought we'd start with a series on how to organize your sewing area.

Keep coming back these week, and I'll cover a few issues that I've had with my sewing supplies/organization...and if you leave comments with any questions about how to organize certain things, I might even make a post about that and give you a shout out!

Future posts may include:

Fabric storage - ways to fold, store, and sort
Yarn storage - types of storage, benefits of each
Embroidery supply storage
Thread storage
Sewing Area Organization
My Favorite Things

I'm also inclined to set up a link party at the end of the week to your blog posts on organizing your supply area, with before and after pictures.  Any takers?

But for today, how about I give you a quick project, and a glance at my new (to me) sewing table!

As far as I can tell, it's a 1960's era desk.  It also weighs a ton.  It's in beautiful condition, everything works fine.  The desk top has been replaced at some point with something less pretty than the rest of it, but since it's close enough, I'm not too worried about it.  There's 6 drawers total, one is a file cabinet drawer and one is a drawer in the center.  There's also the 2 little pull out drawer things with locks on them, and there was a key to it as well.  I got it all at Goodwill yesterday!  I'm so happy to finally replace my old sewing table.  It had a top that extended out, and wasn't very sturdy, and the pins got stuck between the two parts of the top.  This works much better for me.  I have it all set up and ready to go now too.

But see these ugly industrial legs?  I don't even know if you can replace them...they're welded on to the frame.  Bummer.  I had high hopes for some fancy legs. Nothing a little washi tape can't fix though.  Especially one that is this cute.

Perfectly folksy.

I just taped down the center of each steel post, and along the wood at the bottom.  Instant kitsch.

Much cuter.

I thought I loved this tape so much, I wanted to save it for something special.  And then I couldn't think of anything more special than getting to see it everyday as I walked by.

Quick and easy styling, yes?  It's not much, but it makes me smile every time I walk by.

  1. Absolutely adorable! I tried to find washi tape yesterday at joanns and they had never heard of it here. Sad. But I love your project!

    1. Thanks! I've actually never seen washi tape anywhere...I purchased mine from this Etsy seller http://www.etsy.com/shop/zakkalover?ref=seller_info
Shipping from China took some time, but totally worth the wait for all the cuteness.

  2. I am in love with that desk! It actually looks very similar to my "teacher desk" when I taught, and it was AWESOME! I'm in need of a new table...time to go to Goodwill! That is a fabulous find and I am so jealous :)
