They have the most amazing freshwater fish tanks, and my boys are very into them. We spent 20 minutes just looking at fish when we first got there. The taxidermy animals throughout the building they find somewhat interesting, but they don't hold a candle to those tanks, and the bridge that goes over the trout.
After Cabela's we were all pretty hungry, so we decided on a local cafe that we are very lucky to have right by our house - Kerby Lane Cafe. They have outside seating, so they won out for the kids today.
They support a lot of local producers, and their food is fresh and delicious. They also put out a seasonal menu with some delicious items based on what's currently being harvested. And most importantly, they make the best pancakes. Ever.
I made pancakes for breakfast today...and I can't even begin to explain to you how terrible they make mine look. They're so buttery and flavorful, and just fantastic. They make so many varieties year round, and do seasonal ones as well (right now it's lemon poppyseed, but they make gingerbread and pumpkin too). They're pumpkin pancakes taste like pie. Seriously, just like pie, that you get to eat bacon with.
Today's special pancake was Strawberry Chocolate Chip. And they were to die for. As soon as they were set on the table, they were attacked.
My boys tore their pancakes to bits picking out all the good parts. And then they decided that an acceptable dip for tortilla chips (I ate a taco lunch) was butter. Well, not actual butter, but that margarine blob stuff. Ewwww. But it kept them happy (although I'll have to make green smoothies or something to make up for that one!). I think I probably got a few dirty looks for that one..but I didn't see them, since we were having so much fun.
If you're in the Austin area, look for Kerbey Lane Cafe. It's worth the stop - and no one is even paying me to talk them up. I really just think they're that fantastic. If you don't make it to Austin, they sell their pancake mix online. Multiple flavors, and there's some gluten free offerings as well .
Take my word for it, it's worth it. See how happy it made these guys?
Here's hoping our date helped big boy settle for today...daddy will be back home tonight.
And then maybe I can get some projects worked on - I did end up watching Footloose (the new one) last night while I was crocheting. It was great mental relaxation for me, both the movie and crocheting. And it wasn't a terrible movie...I kind of liked it.
Anyway, till next time!
Your boys are so cute. Thanks so much for stopping by The NY Melrose Family and leaving such a sweet comment. I'm following via GFC. Stop back any time. I host a weekly link party on Wednesdays and I'd love for you to link up next week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Jenny! I'm following you back as well, and I'd love to show up to your link party - if I manage to get something new done!
