For the length I wanted for the baby blanket, I chained 100 (I think!) using her formula. That made my ripples go vertically instead of horizontally.
Anyway, I really like how it turned out. I used 4 skeins of Pristine and 3 of Seven Seas, plus a little of one more skein for the border. I still need to wash and block it, so it'll be baby ready and nice and flat.
I used DC all through as in Lucy's pattern, and the flipping back and forth creates some nice wavy ridges.
I still have to weave in a few ends, although I did a lot of that as I went. Since I only switched colors when I ran out, it cut down on the tedious parts.
This is a gift for a friend of mine who is having a baby in a few months. It was a quick project but I wanted to get it done before other creative impulses took over. I love working this pattern though. There's something therapeutic about it - not too simple, not too difficult, but just right.
I think I'll leave it with just the slip stitch on the edge...unless you guys have any suggestions or ideas for finishing it up more. It almost looks TOO simple in this post! Babies need simple though, I think. Simple can go a long way. In any case, just having a cute little baby in or on it will make it even better.
