Reversible Hunting Hat!

I got a custom order from a friend of mine for a special hat.  She wanted a beanie, and since she works outdoors, it needed to be warm and take some abuse.  After thinking on it, I came up with the perfect idea.

It's not 2 hats, it's a reversible hat!  One side is blaze orange (for safety) and the hat can be reversed the camouflage (for hunting, hiding, hiking, whatever).  Sometimes you want to stand out, and sometimes you don't.

I started drafting the pattern this morning...and after 8, yes 8! iterations, I have a version that fits well, doesn't bunch at the curve of the head, and will look great.  I'm thinking of posting the pattern pieces as a pdf file for those of you who might be interested.  If you are, comment, and I'll start putting it together.
My poor Olfa mat can't hardly take it anymore...

She also requested an applique, but since I'm out of black felt it'll have to wait a day or so until I get to the store.  And I want to tweak the pattern a little more (because you know, the 9th time is the charm, lol)...so I'm keeping this one as a hat for me!

Mr. Tupelo will be thrilled that my fabric piles are beginning to shrink, as I draft on similar fabrics to the ones I need on my project, and I killed a lot of fleece today.  :) And my friend will be happy she isn't wearing Rapunzel, racing checks, and monster hats.

Topstitching the layers together, with the ever present Grabbit
Also, for future reference, blaze orange is extremely hard to photograph!  It really throws my camera off for some reason.

I'm offering these hats in my Etsy shop - keep your hunting and hiking friends in mind!

See you tomorrow!
